Save Ohio Libraries

In Ohio, there is a special fund called the Public Libraries Fund or PLF that provides state funding to libraries. Some 70% of Ohio’s libraries are funded solely through that revenue stream, with no local funding. In June 2009, the Governor of Ohio proposed a budget that would drastically cut state funding to Ohio libraries. Thus, SaveOhioLibraries.com was born. While that measure did not pass, library funding was still affected by cuts made to the PLF and the decreased tax revenue. (The PLF is not a set amount, rather it is a percentage of the General Revenue Fund which fluctuates with the economy). Since that time, a number of Ohio libraries have taken to their local ballot in order to keep their libraries open, keep hours, and maintain staffing levels. SaveOhioLibraries.com is closely monitoring those efforts and providing support where we can.
